The Nockmarrians are a humanoid offshoot living in the Nockmarr system near the Mid-Rim region in the Star Wars Galaxy. Although human like in many ways the Nockmarrians have evolved away from their human cousins after being cut off from the rest of the Galaxy for several eons. Around 1002 BBY they reestabilished contact with the Old Republic though decided against intergrating into the Senate. They remained this way until the estabilishment of The Empire (now the Imperial Remnant) when the then leader of the Nockmarrians, Dakkon Kael, turned the system over as a pledge of good faith.
Physiology
Nockmarrians are divided into two sub-species, the Noranot and the Sordadod. The Noranot are between 6' and 7' tall and roughly weigh anywhere between 190 lbs. to 250 lbs. They were from the mountainous continent of Norna where the harsh living conditions forced them to evolve into a hardy people. Though they are brutish in appearance they are extremely skilled builders and tacticians having made up the bulk of the working/fighting class of the Nockmarrian culture.
The Sordadod are lithe and attractive Nockmarrians whom were centered around the larger of the two great continents of Nockmarr, Sorda. Unlike their cousins, the Noranot, the Sordadod lived on wide open plains and lived in realitively calm area where they flourished and grew. However as time passed and over population became a problem those who were concidered "undesireable" were removed from their culture and gene-pool as a way to breed the perfect species. Naturally this lead to a weakness in their foundations as the years strenched on and inbreeding became more and more common place. However due to their efforts the Sordadod became an elegant, beautiful and vain people cherishing art and politics. Today the average "pure" Sordadod is a rarity as they have been influenced by the genetics of several of the other humanoid species since reaching beyond their planet. Average Sordadods range from 5'5 to 6'1 and anywhere between 120 lbs to 190 lbs.
Although the two Nockmarrian peoples are obviously diffrent in appearance they certainly are very similiar in regards to their internal structure. Nockmarrians have a unique frontal lobe in their brain that allows them to process information extremely quickly. This is attributed to the species constant contact with a fungus native to the planet which, if ingested, accelerates the activity of the brain. While the fungus no longer as an effect on Nockmarrians (Their body evolved to do it naturally) it still effects humanoid races and is one of the chief Pharmaceutical exports of Nockmarr. This tolerance has also make the Nockmarr extremely durable against poisons however it also makes them extremely hard to treat with drugs.
History of Nockmarr
The people of Nockmarr are closely related to the Humans of the Star Wars Universe. It is believed that around 10,000 BBY a pilgrimage fleet found Nockmarr and settled on its primary continent, Sorda. After several years ships were sent out to explore the rest of the planet, spreading the human population out as it did so. However soon there came internal struggles as the population was plagued with various diseases as well as constant contact with a local fungus which caused an acceleration of brain activity which, inturn, caused a great deal of paranoia. This mixture of disease mixed with paranoia about the causes of the disease instigated a civil war which lead to a large group of the pilgrams to flee off Sorda and settle on Norna.
In an irrational panic the leaders of Sorda ordered all of their vehicals destroyed inorder to assure none of their people would go searching for those treacherous villains who fled. It was proclaimed that never more would the people of Sorda deal with anyone but their own. And so time passed in Sorda the diseases finally ended having taken a terrible toll of those pigrims that were left there. Nearly 80 percent of those who arrived had either died or fled to Norna.
Likewise on the other side of the planet, on Norna, those who were forced to fleet were experiencing their own difficulties. Due to the continents mountainous terran many ships were lost being forced to crash down in the valley regions. Unlike Sorda, where the weather was generally good, the weather of Norna was harsh and cold. Winds, rain and snow were common and those who fled there found it difficult to grow crops or maintain life stock in the harsh region. Many died during the first ten years before a proper city was built and an indoor farming complex was completed.
Many years passed as the two cultures built themselves up over time. In Sorda the people learned to cultivate the land and build massive cities in the great plains of the continent. Technology was increased quickly and culture centers were becoming extremely popular. Likewise in Norna the people had learned how to deal with the mountainous enviroment and were happy with their quiet simple life style. On both continents a tolerance to the fungus was created to the strange fungus and the people of Nockmarr grew.
Eventually the two cultures met once again around 9000 BBY. Usually it had been forbidden on Sorda to investigate the home of their old and bitter rivals who were banished to the stone continent however as Sorda become increasinly over populated people began questioning why they shouldn't investigate the other continent. Likewise with the culling of the "Undesireables" and the weakness of the inbred "Pure Sordadod" it was neccessary to reach out. The first official meeting took place in the great central hall of Norna where the Ambassador of Sorda met with the Lord of Norna. The two cultures quickly became one over time as they relied on eachother for economic as well as cultural growth.
Since then the Nockmarr reached back out into the stars and encountered several diffrent races before finding their old roots back in the Old Republic. However they turned down an invitation to join the Old Republic and prefered to act as their own system opening up various trades with Pharmaceutical companies where they sold their unique fungus. There was relative peace before the coming of the Nevo'lo Empire
The Nevo'lo Invasion
The Nevo'lo Empire was the closest neighbor to Nockmarr and was made up of an insect like race that worshipped their Queens as Gods and scorned Nockmarr for lush and productive planet. For a long time they planned and plotted the downfall of Nockmarr, currupting several high ranking officals and inplacing Agents to assure Nockmarr was unprepared for the coming war. Approximately 29 BBY the Nevo'lo launched their attack on Nockmarr. In only six short months the entire planet was under Nevo'lo's cruel lash. p>
For two years the people of Nockmarr were used as slave labour for the insidious insects before a revolt, lead by one of the last members of the Royal Family, known as Dakkon Kael which translates roughly to Dragon of War. The rebellion, under the ruthless and extremely precise tactics of Kael, forced the Nevo'lo invaders off Nockmarr in just over a year of fighting. What happened next has been written in history as the Great Purging of Nockmarr. p>
The Great Purging of Nockmar
The Purge started three weeks after the defeat of the Nevo'lo Empire on Nockmarr. In the power vacume created by the need to create a new government the head of the Nockmarrian rebellion, Dakkon Kael, claimed leadership. This greatly disturbed and infuriated several political parties that existed in Nockmarr before it was taken over requesting a more democratic solution. Angered that they would question his ability to rule as well as allow a system of government that was powerless against the Nevo'lo Invasion Kael created the New Faith law.
Under the New Faith law all those who were unable or unwilling to accept the new Rule of Kael would be killed. Those who were sighted as being allies or friends of the Nevo'lo would also meet their end during this purge. In less then a week over 10,000,000 Nockmarrians were killed at the hands of Kael's troops. After such a brutal and efficent thining of Nockmarr Kael's rule was absolute. Soon afterward he began work on a fleet of warships so that he might instigate this same Purge across Nevo'lo space.
Five years after the first Purge, the Nockmarrians swept through Nevo'lo space destroying planet after planet, hive after hive of Nevo'lo who could do nothing before the wave of death but run and hide. Under Kael's sadistic and vicious command the Nockmarrians showed no mercy killing the young, the old alike with no care of interest in the sparing of life. Finally the Nevo'lo were forced back to their home world where they awaited the Final Hammer stroke.
Kael visited the last world of the Nockmarr and signed a peace treaty with them so long as they gave him maps and locations of all remaining Nevo'lo holdings. Following the signing of the peace treaty the Nockmarrian fleet bombarded the Nevo'lo homeworld and sent out to purge the remaining Nevo'lo holdings speckled throughout space. Eight years after the Purge was made into law it was finally over with the complete erradication of the Nevo'lo race.
The Galactic Empire and The New Republic
The year following the end of the Purge, the leader of the Nockmarr, Kael, joined the Empire and with him he offered the planet as proof of his loyalty. For twenty six years the planet acted as war ground where troops and weapons were tested out. Nockmarr had no qualities about it that made it especially juicy in the eyes of the Empire however so it remained relatively unchanged. Later Nockmarr would join the New Republic after the Fall of the Empire and elected a "Pure Sordadod", Lord Sapien von Myr'tor, as their Senator.
