The Gorn are a race of reptilian humanoids from the Alpha Quadrant of the Milky Way Galaxy. They inhabited the Rak Sector of the Star Wars Galaxy for roughly 75 years before being driven out by the Children of the Nile.
__Physiology__
The Gorn stand usually between 6'7" and 7'5", and are heavy creatures despite an inability to store fats, thus all their weight comes from muscle, bones, and organs. They are extremely strong, roughly twice as strong as a Vulcan, due to their homeplanet Gornniska's high gravity. Gorn are also very agile and dexterous when in the right environmental setting. Outside of a comfortable heat and humidity range, the Gorn body begins to slow down, and although retaining their mental capacity and strength, the Gorn will lose speed and reflexes if too hot or too cold.
Gorn have compound eyes, which allow them to see in 360 degrees around their body. They have extremely limited oalfactory glands, able to detect little smell other than very strong ones, but a very complex tasting system. They have pain receptors, but not to the degree that most humanoids do, and it is said that a Gorn does not truly feel pain until he is about to die.
Unique to the Gorn is a rapid healing factor, with mimetic cells and complex organ memory, meaning a Gorn can have an entire limb removed and regrow it within a matter of days. They can also regrow more complex organs, like intestines or a heart. The only way to kill a Gorn for good is to remove the head entirely.
__Pre-Star Wars Galaxy History__
The Gorn were one of the few races united globally early in their history. With a low population and common language, the groups in the southern half of the only continent on Gornniska quickly conquered the northern populations in the stone-age. Since then, the Gorn have, with only minor regional differences, been growing as a whole for thousands of years.
Despite a series of civil wars and regional revolts, the Gorn Hegemony (as every incarnation of the Gorn global political entity is known) has remained largely intact, through Empires, Republics, Theocracies, and several periods of brief Anarchy.
The main political units of the Gorn are families, called "Clans" and groups of families long aligned into "Crests". The Crests act as political parties, and traditionally hold their own standing military, but each soldier in every military is sworn in allegiance to the Gorn People, and due to a common ranking system, the militaries can interact cohesively.
__Once in the Star Wars Galaxy__
A group of Gorn from the Red Crest, a prominent centrist Crest, along with members of the Black Crest (ultra conservative) and Blue Crest (ultra liberal) was lost in an accidental explosion, resulting in abandonment in the Star Wars Galaxy. They were quickly recovered by a group called the Sluagh, and formed a long-lasting alliance. The Sluagh had long since destroyed their enemies on Rak 4 which was a paradise to the Gorn. The Gorn and Sluagh lived in harmony under a common law for years.
The Gorn and Sluagh were also close allies of the Dread Conglomerate and The Tragolite Federation.
Eventually, the Gorn Republic, the alliance of the crests, was threatened by civil war from the Black Crest, who created a genetically altered Gorn child to be their emperor, but the child was lost on Tatooine in a crash.
The loss of the prince did not deter the Black Crest from conquering parts of Gorn space and declaring war on the Gorn Republic. This new ultra conservative faction became known as the Gorn Empire.
The civil war with the Gorn tore apart the sector, and weakened the Gorn economy and military, softening them up for the coming invasion.
After three years of war, the Gorn were forced to abandon their sector after the mass genocide/exodus forced by the Ptolemaic Empire. The Sluagh chose to commit mass suicide rather than die at the hands of invaders.
