The Wookiees are a race of furred bipeds that hail from the planet Kashyyyk. One of the most noteworthy members of the species is Lowbacca, a powerful force-user who has had a falling out with Luke Skywalker and is currently a spice runner on Tatooine. Lowie is also a nephew of the now deceased Chewbacca, one of the most famous Wookiees in history.

The Wookiees' natural habitat is the dense forests of the planet Kashyyyk (though some sources do contend that they are immigrants to this planet). Kashyyyk is covered with massive Wroshyr trees, in which the Wookiees construct their homes and cities. They are naturally very close to the Force, and as such are commonly either seers or mages on Kashyyyk, or Jedi. They also have a certain technogical prowess, though in a naturalistic sense, often preferring mechanical systems to digital, and gears to hydraulics. They are also master tacticians and warriors.

The Wookiees were enslaved by the Empire, and as such, when they were freed, held close loyalty to the Galactic Republic. They are also naturally and culturally independant, however, and resist too powerful a centralized government, preferring to oversee their own matters on a whole, and seeing the Republic as more of a means to keep peace than regulate daily life.
